Disc Breaks with Llupa - 144 - ft. tOOk - 2nd December 2010

After last weeks hiatus, the Disc Breaks show is back this week and with a cracking guest mix from new Glack Audio signing - tOOk! The mix is chock full of new originals and remixes from the man who has really taken off since his Glack release and fit's in perfectly with the deep Disc Breaks ethos.

tOOk

Behind the alias tOOk you’ll find Gabor Tukacs, a 27 year old producer, born and raised in Hungary, currently living in Belgium.

Coming from a family with musical background, he was surrounded by tapes, records and musical instruments from a tender age on.
As later on he developed computer skills and discovered tracker software, it seemed more exciting for him to put the instruments down for a while, and start focusing on programming his sounds.

Walking the long road of autodidactism, he got to a point where he tought his beats are tight enough to present them to broader audience.
Having his first release on Glack Audio, one of Hungary’s finest labels has given things a big boost, getting in touch with the players of the scene and being asked to deliver originals and to remix tunes for them happened almost instantly.

Not limited to a single genre, you can expect him to drop breaks, dubstep or techy sounds as well. One thing is for sure: you will always find catchy chord progressions and melodies, rich textures in his tunes, as he prefers these over soulless bangers.

He recently started working together with fellow Hungarian producer aateks, wich appears to be a fruitful collaboration. Presumedly you will hear a lot more from them in the near future.

What a great way to round out 2010 here on the Disc Breaks show. Big respect to tOOK for a great guest mix chock full of his new stuff due out very soon - tOOk is definitely a name to watch out for!

That was the last Disc Breaks show for 2010, me and the misses are of for a well deserved holiday in Thailand, so the next show will be the first Thursday in Jan 2011. Big thanks to all of you who have tuned in throughout the year, your support is greatly appreciated. I hope you have a great holiday season and an ever better New Years.

Take care and see you in 2011!

Disc Breaks with Llupa - 143 - ft. Blusoul - 18th November 2010

Back to the deep stuff this week with a great guest mix by Blusoul. I only recently discovered Blusoul, but I was so taken by his recent Fireface EP on Mistique Music, I had to get in contact and see if he was keen to do a mix for us. Luckily he was and he's going to take us on a journey covering some of the best deep breakbeat that is out and about at the moment.

Blusoul

Harris Sgourdas aka Blusoul was born in the city of Athens, Greece. He was first introduced to music at a very young age! Once he reached his teen years, after graduating from high school he got very involved with early dance music buying house and trance records in early 90's and playing them for his friends, and for small clubs.Later on became a Radio Producer at Blue Sky 107.2. Harris slowly got determined to earn a living producing music.

After a few years of developing his skills composing and producing tracks and decided to pursue a degree in music technology, while working at Virgin Mega Store record shop as manager.Harris still managed to DJ at very known Clubs in Athens. Finally he released his first track "Another Day" at Klik records in 2005, and a few years later releases "World in a Shell" and "Flow EP" at The Sound Of Everything Records.

Blusoul has now found a home on Mistique Music and has delivered some amazing remixes and original tracks in recent months!Blusoul has now become quite a known and respected figure in the progressive house and breaks underground and with good reason, his recent single 'I'll Come To You" and his 'Marcooz & Gudowski' remix received support from Markus Schulz!

Wow - what a fantastic guest mix, this kind of music is what the Disc Breaks show is all about - big respect to Blusoul

Disc Breaks with Llupa - 142 - ft. Deibeat - 11th November 2010

We have another cracker of a guest mix this week for you. A guy that I have been following for quite a while - Deibeat!

With classic tracks like We Rock The Party, Hitting The Jack and Time to Rock he's forged a name is breaks for writing solid damn groovy tunes that are always quality, this was recently highlighted by the release of an Deibeat album sampler featuring 2 chunky tech funkery tunes of the highest order. Now working with The Pooty Club the mix is chock full of the groove based tech breaks and is one not to miss.

Deibeat took some time out to have a chat to me about the album and how he writes his tunes, the full interview is below.

Deibeat

Deibeat began being atractted by musical composition since he was a child, in a first step using some trackers, making beatbox or just with a pair of decks, but always trying to fix his own style.

He began to create his own sounds, his own music, his own electronic rythms. DeiBeat's records and remixes started to cross the world at the same time that he won several remix competitions in Spain.

He has managed, with his sound, to turn into one of the most representative Spanish breaks producers worldwide and, he has been employed in multiple projects with best breaks labels.

He is also working as David Casal for Techno/House tracks.

Exclusive Interview for the Disc Breaks show:

Llupa : It's great to see Deibeat back and this time with a whole album to drop on us. The album sampler has two great chunky tech funkery tunes on it 'Start Fire' and 'Make The Day', can you give us a feel of what the rest of the album is like? Is it all Deibeat or does some David Casal sneak in there

Deibeat : First I wanna thanks for your support and let me be part of your show. The album will have some tracks in the same style of the first sample but, this is the only clear thing at the moment because a part of the album is still not writen. The Pooty Club Records Staff, in which I am included recently, have decided to publish several samplers of the album, and then, the whole album with bonus tracks.

I hadn't thought of including David Casal's works but, it can be a good idea. We will include some collaborations from Pooty Club artist such as Baymont Bross.

Llupa : Most people would be aware of the two monikers you have, Deibeat for the breaks and David Casal for the straight stuff. When you approach a new tune do you have one of those hats on, or do you decide after the tune is written?

Deibeat : I use to decide first what style I wanna do but, if you are creating breaks sometimes happens that the vibe you're
composing feels better with a 4 to floor or otherwise.

Llupa : What got you into writing music and have you had formal training or is it something that you've just developed?

Deibeat : I never had musical training, I've learned everything by myself, it's much slower but never forgotten. I love the music since I was a child, and many members of my family used to play an instrument but I was not attracted by the instruments, I always wanted to get them together and create a full track.

Llupa : What would you cite as your musical influences?

Deibeat : It's hard for me to find an answer to this question because I love all music but, if we focus on electronic music, I can tell you names such as Union Jack, Orbital, Chicane, Paul Oakenfold, Plump DJs, Hybrid, Chemical Brothers, BT, Crystal Method, Prodigy, Baymont Bross...., the list could be endless..

Llupa : Can you give us a run down of Deibeat studios and what pieces of kit could you not live without?

Deibeat : When computer-based secuencers were not too powefull i use to compose on Cubase with several electronic instruments. But, at this time, I never had enough money to buy hardware and have a good complete studio. Things started going better for me when the quality and power of sequencers and VST instruments began to increase more and more.

Currently I do all the work in Ableton Live using a very simple Home Studio. It consists of a pair of monitors Alesis M1 Active 620, a quad core PC and a new acquisition I can not live without, my Akai APC40.

Llupa : If we're lucky enough to catch you play live what can we expect and what sort of setup do you use?

Deibeat : I used to play vinyls and CDs but now I'm preparing my sets on ableton live with Akai APC40.

Llupa : Will you be touring at all for the album and will be lucky enough to see you down here in Melbourne?

Deibeat : Now we are getting more exposure for me with The Pooty Club support and, finally, Beatport is supporting us too. We hope things start to going better now but, anyway, international tours for Spanish Breaks artist does not work too well but I have hope to get a tour and be at Melbourne before I go bald

Big thanks to Deibeat for the Guest mix and the interview - the mix is definitely one not to miss!

Disc Breaks with Llupa - 140 - ft. BSD - 28th October 2010

This week on the Disc Breaks show I'm stoked to be bringing you an exclusive showcase mix from one of the most anticipated albums from the scene newest stars - BSD. I also did an interview with the guys about them and the album - the full interview is below

BSD
BSD (BASS-STAR-DOS) began as a project in 1998, formed by two French lovers of electronic music, alternative trends and indie movement. Without resources, and virtually no experience producing dance music, we had to wait almost 10 years to realize the concept in which we wanted to make BSD.

During these 10 years we were flirting with Hip-Hop, Funk, New Wave, Nu Disco, Elektro, Breaks, etc ... And much more, because during those years we review all that has been occurring in electronics since the late 70’s with the advent of disco music and 12” vinyl, to today in which digital files dominate the electronic scene.

Our goal when we introduced in the production of dance music was clear: Give the public what the public wants, working always in search of a musical identity, a style that characterizes us, but transmitting range of sounds at the same time.

Currently, with little more than a year showing the public our particular ideology, we have reaped success after success under iBreaks Records label, which bet on us at first, reaching up to the top of the global Breaks scene, finally confirming us as one of the most prolific producers of recent times. Proof of this is the "Breakthrough Producer 2010" award, which was bestowed to us in the last edition of Breakspoll Awards (2010).

Our first album, Malditos Bass-Star-Dos! (Which will be released next November 1st under our own label, Mental Machine Muzik), is the work of several months in which we have tried to capture our open minds and our obsession with attractive sounds. To present this project, we have created 10 new tracks, which will be accompanied by another 8 tunes published under iBreaks Records label, forming a compilation full of variety with a predominance of Breaks genre.

In this album you will find tracks clearly influenced by the purest Elektro-Breaks of the early decade ("EBM", "Elektro-Life"); casual and fresh sounds characteristic of Tech-Funk ("Joe Jacks”, "Overestimate", "Hard 'n' Bass", etc.); Oldskool impressive percussions ("Total Cucumber"); as well as tracks inspired by Bassline and NuSkool Breaks predominant in the UK ("Everybody Scream", "You Must Find Strength").

In addition, we wanted to honor one of our sources of inspiration in this adventure in Breaks music, as in the case of "Party Groove", a production subtitled as "Breaks Phenomenon" honoring the NuSkool Breaks classic "TSUNAMI ONE & BT : Hip Hop Phenomenon [Marine Parade] 1999."

You will also find in "Malditos Bass-Star-Dos!" some of the recent hits of these French masked guys, like "Hypnotizin", "You Must Find Strength", "Compute", "Get Hype On This", "Funkdation", ...

Exclusive Interview for the Disc Breaks show:

Llupa : It hasn't even been 2 years since your Intoxicated Music EP hit the breakbeat world, but now you're one of the big hitters in the scene with almost every release going top ten, if not number one. How has that trip been for you guys?

BSD : Well, when we decided to start this project we knew that to reach the top we had to make a style of music appealing to the public, away from underground sounds while avoiding commercial fashion. It was not easy to define our style, but we knew that if we followed that path, we would get out.

The rest was a matter of time, and waiting to see if it confirmed our thinking about how to do music. So this trip has not been a surprise, but rather a confirmation that the scene needed new producers, to do a variety of music with people in mind. All the achievements so far have been great, but we hope to get more.

Llupa : I know you like to keep the world guessing about the guys behind the masks, but can you enlighten us a little about your musical background and how you guys came to write music together?

BSD : We have known for many years, but was 3 years ago when we started to work together seriously. Until then had been largely separate musical careers. We had done some joint collaboration, but not too seriously. Over time we have seen that we work well together and we get to take forward our productions decently.

In all these years we have thoroughly enjoyed the music, perhaps the most in life. We have always had a predilection for Elektro sounds, but we have always been attracted to other styles of electronic music, or not necessarily electronics. We really enjoy the R'n'B and Funk from 70s and 80s, but we also marvel at the dark and experimental electronic labels like Ant-Zen. It will be noticed our musical tastes in our upcoming productions, because until now you only have listened to our Breaks-side.

Llupa : The production quality of all your tunes is amazing, have you had formal training or is it something that you've just developed?

BSD : Eric has had some training, but it was a few years ago. Currently we are guided by the ear. Training is good to have some knowledge about it, but go with the sounds, rhythm, vocals, etc ... and, of course, get to know your speakers are sufficient for producing fairly well. Years of experience and take your time to listen to the productions of others, especially the ones you like as they do, it helps enough to get a good sound or at least an effective sound.

Llupa : As there's the two of you how do you approach writing a tune? Is one of you better at one element, like writing grooves?

BSD : Not really. Eric has many musical influences that have been acquired over time, so it is very good at developing the arrangements. But in general we are playing with our abilities: some tracks we produce together, other tracks the one begins and the other ends, there are tunes in which we joint two different ideas... So in our own style we get many different sounds.

Llupa : Can you give us a rundown of BSD studios and what pieces of kit could you not live without?

BSD : The only piece of kit without which we could not live is an ordinary computer, apart from our ideas. The rest was coming next, and some tracks from our discography have been produced with so few resources that would scare as much as our masks ... ha ha ha!

Llupa : What would you cite as your musical influences?

BSD : We have many influences. We have been almost all life consuming and collecting music of all styles that attracted our attention. We love New Wave, Synth-Pop, Elektro, Indie Pop, Freestyle, Funk, Rap, Balearic... From the 90s we began to consume more dance music: Happy Hardcore, Trip-Hop, Big Beat, Trance, Goa, Madchester sounds, EBM, House, Breaks... the list is endless.

Llupa : The album is very impressive with many vibes and sounds captured, what does it mean to you now it's complete?

BSD : It's a relief really, we have been working very hard over the past months to release these productions. We wanted that everybody liked it, that it had variety within our style, and also it was a good album with lots of tunes to listen on the dance floor. It was not an easy task, and we have had to discard many productions while we were developing it. But we have done with great enthusiasm, so now the only thing that worries us is that the public will enjoy it, and to continue working on new productions.

Llupa : It's being released on your own new label 'Mental Machine Muzik' - will this be a BSD only label or can we expect releases from other artists?

BSD : For the time will be a label for productions of BSD. But we want to keep expanding little by little, trying new genres, working with new producers, remixing, being remixed... It is quite possible that in the near future other producers can release their music on ‘Mental Machine Muzik’, but before we have to give popularity to the label.

Llupa : Now you finished the album - what's next for you guys?

BSD : Work, work, and more work. We already have many ideas, as well as the desire to grow musically worldwide, and try new styles such as Indie Dance or Electro House. We do not want to stop for a second... Moreover, we already have 3 or 4 releases ready to release after the album, in which you can expect collaborations with vocalists, some tunes that were to be released in the album but ultimately decided to wait, new versions of our tracks, auto-remixes into other genres... Many surprises.

Llupa : So, when will we see you guys here in Melbourne?

BSD : We hope soon. Now that we have a place musically in the scene, we intend to work on some tours to introduce the album.

Massive respect to the BSD guys for the mix and interview - didn't have working mic for this one, so it's just the tunes doing the talking this time ;)

Disc Breaks with Llupa - 139 - ft. Ritmic Records - 21st October 2010

After a couple of weeks break we're back into the guest mixes here on the Disc Breaks show - this is a special one, as it's a label showcase from a label that I loved when it was around a few years ago and is now back - Ritmic Records. Fans of the label will remember classic tracks from the likes of Downpressor, Bengston and rEalm and for the re-birth of the label Downpressor is back but under a new guise and this mix has been put together by the man running the show now Thomas Binzegger aka Dogz Nadz.

Ritmic Records
Ritmic Records was founded in 2001 by Bengston and enjoyed considerable success with releases and remixes by Downpressor, André Absolut, Elite Force, Boogie Army, Be&See and of course Bengston, amongst others.

UFO by Vactrol is the first sign of life on the Ritmic imprint in over 2 years, and at the same time forms the opener for a new series of sonic attacks to be released in due course. Vactrol delivers two huge objects of unknown origin which are based on a mind-boggling incident that occurred to him back in the summer of 1998: After being hijacked by a flying saucer and taken for a fascinating panoramic sightseeing flight, the UFO crashed right into his backyard swimming pool while approaching for landing. Miraculously, he survived and then managed to back-engineer the UFO's vactrol controlled propulsion and energy generation - hence his name - to design two incredible techhouse tracks which defy our currently accepted physics. The Dogz Nadz approaches the UFO phenomenon from a "nuts-and-bolts" craft perspective and turns it into into a filthy, nasty dubstep monster which comes off like a rotating superconductor in a mercury-based plasma vortex. You don't wanna get caught in this one!

Disc Breaks with Llupa - 136 - ft. Stylus Rex - 30th September 2010

After and heavy dose of the psy tech on last weeks guest mix, this week we head down the tech groove with Stylus Rex! This is a mix that really showcases Stylus Rex's unique sound that swings between tech stomp and funk groove, make sure you're tuned in

Stylus Rex
With a background playing live drums for bands coupled with studio sessions with producers like Youth (Killing Joke), JDS, Adam F, & Dan Carey (Kylie)… Stylus Rex is hooked on beat construction & production. Since the first self-pressed vinyl BOOMSTICK release in 2005 which was picked up by Hiedi Van Amstell to sell through PHONICA & Ray Vinyl through VINYL ADDICTION, the Stylus Rex sound had come a long way.

Releases on PUNK FUNK, RE:CONNECT, CONTROL BREAKS, BRONZERAT, BIJOUBEATS & 5 singles so far on Ground Level Records (Serious Wobble, Cops On Coke, Surge, Spangle Wagon, & now Volta) have all pushed to move the underground bass and beats sound forward.

Big thanks to Stylus Rex for the mix, loving that new tune mate! bit of a different mix from me, lots of chunky techfunkery with new stuff from Deibeat and BSD

Disc Breaks with Llupa - 135 - ft. Hedflux - 23rd September 2010

Back to the guest mixes this week and this week is the mighty Hedlfux! I've been a fan of Hedlfux's sound since Music is My Weapon hit on Sinister a couple of years back, he's got such a unique sound and his attention to detail in his tunes is amazing. Even better news is that he's touring Oz in late January next year, so if you're liking the sounds of Hedflux make sure you're tuning in later today and if you're here in Oz - tour dates will be confirmed soon

Hedflux
Since exploding onto the scene with his seminal début track "Music is My Weapon", Steve Young aka Hedflux has firmly established a fresh and distinctive flavour of psychedelic tech-funk. Crafting together elements from breaks, techno, and psytrance, the result is a genre-bending fusion of deep driving bass grooves, twisted glitchy noodles and resonant synth sorcery.

Following the success of his early releases on Sinister and Breakin' Even Records, Steve joined Broken Robot Records in early 2009 and enjoyed a year of increasingly high profile gigs at festivals such as Glade, Waveform, NewFoundLand and iBreaks, as well as headlining at numerous club nights across the UK and Europe. Carving out a unique sound between the psychedelic trance and breakbeat genres, Hedflux has lined up along side some of the artists that have inspired him the most; artists such as Shpongle, Elite Force, Eat Static, Far Too Loud and Headroom.

Taking an increasingly refined and disciplined approach to his productions and DJ sets, the rewards continue to manifest in abundance. In the first quarter of 2010 Hedflux has graced the decks of London's premier super-club Matter, and delivered a blistering remix for the mighty Lot49 Records. Recent performances in Saint Petersburg, Prague, Zagreb and Amsterdam, have established and strengthened the demand for this exciting new sound across the globe.

April 2010 saw the release of "Mindcell" which shot straight to the number 1 spot on the Beatport breaks chart then slowly but surely climbed up the global top 100 - a very rare occurrence for a breaks track. The track stayed at #1 for three weeks, and remained in the top 5 for three months. This, combined with the huge amount of buzz in radio, magazines and the blogosphere, further established Hedflux as a serious player in the electronic dance music scene.

Now working professionally as a music producer, deejay and sound designer, Steve's dedication to quality music and performance is stronger than ever. In the second half of 2010, expect to hear a string of releases on Broken Robot, Lot49 and U&A recordings, with much more in the pipeline for 2011.

Cheers to Hedflux for the massive mix, that went down very well! Lots of new stuff from me, it wasn't my tightest show ever, but hopefully the tunes make up for it ;) Don't forget you can catch Hedflux live in Oz late January.

Diistortiion - Taken (Llupa's Liberation Remix) - Out now!

Hey guys,

My remix of Diistortiion's massive tune 'Taken' is out today on Ridiculoud Records :D I'm hugely happy with how this one turned out, big respect to Diistortiion, Ridiculoud and Ghettface.

Preview below and you can buy it here - Diistortiion - Taken (Llupa's Liberation Remix) on Beatport

Diistortiion - 'Taken' with remixes from Llupa and Ghettface - Ridiculoud Records

Part two of DiiSTORTiiON's debut with Ridiculoud is a dark, driving, and floor-burning original. 'Taken' employs a fierce bassline that drives the track with trippy synths and a haunting vocal sample. On the first remix, Ghettface returns once again with big drums, screaming synths, and high powered edits - this one is for those peaktime moments! Finally, Llupa joins the Ridiculoud roster with an epic, rolling progressive masterpiece for the last remix. Crafting his own melody to complement the dark atmosphere of the original, this one is the perfect beginning for any set!

Diistortiion - Taken (Llupa's Liberation Remix) PREVIEW by Llupa

Feedback:

Mr. No Hands (Mixmag) - “The Ghettface remix is slammmmin!”

Daniella Downs (Dead Famous) - “Llupa is like my Australian bastard stepchild. He's come along leaps and bounds over the years, and while he's still hit or miss sometimes, it's generally a hit, and I think he continues to get better and better.”

Sam Hell (Broken Robot/Mofo) - “Another corker of a release for you guys. Love the original, really reminds me of early Dylan Rhymes stuff! Nice work!”

Duane Barry (Digital Sensation UK) - “What can I say, I love both the remixes. The Ghettface remix is trademark with its classic twisted synths, and I love Llupa's deep, more progressive take with its spacey synths and solid groove. Full support from me!”

Triple Agent (Broken Robot) - “Wicked release! All three tunes are top, but my favorite of the bunch is the Ghettface remix.”

Plaza De Funk (West Records/Brighton Breaks) - “Liking the original mix!”

Home Alone (Dead Famous/Ridiculoud) - “Awesome release. Really liking the original and the remixes. Not a big fan of the vocal sample, but it still works well. My pick is Llupa's remix - superb!”

LuQas (Dead Famous) - “All three mixes are cool. Hard to pick a fave, but might have to plump for the Ghettface as I'm not 100% convinced by the riff used in the other two.”

Lee Martin (Dusted Breaks) - “Llupa remix all the way here!! Full Support.”

Kickflip (Breakin Even) - “Distorted rocky vibes of the Ghettface remix doing it here!”

Karton (Sound Of Habib) - “Really like what Llupa has done here - nice package all round.”

Steve Maccabe (VIM) - “The Llupa remix is my favorite of the three and the one I would most likely play out. But both the original and Ghettface remix are banging tracks as well. Great bassline in the original! Really good package again from your label, great stuff.”
Mobius (Ape Music) - “The original mix is my favorite of the three here, reminds me of the good old days of labels like Lot49. Llupa’s remix is quite a nice, chilled take on the tune as well.”

Bill Vega (Downbeat/Badbwoy Bass) - “Going with the Ghettface remix, excellent stuff. Great film Taken!! Liking Llupa’s remix and the original also, but Ghettface tops the three in my opinion - 8/10”

EK (Dead Famous) - “Liking Llupa's remix and what he has done with it.”

Retroid (Morphosis) - “Llupa’s remix is my pick but nice release overall!”

Vital Substance (Breakin Even) - “I’m all over the Llupa remix...diggin the progressive feel and nice deep bass.”

Far Too Loud (Funkatech) - “Llupa’s remix has a really nice groove to it. A bit proggy for a lot of my sets these days, but definitely one to keep in the wallet.”

Burjuy (Breaks Review Show) - “This release is AWESOME!!!!”

Yreane (XSSR) - “Nice release. Really feeling the Ghettface remix. Support!”

Disc Breaks with Llupa - 132 - ft. Karton - 2nd September 2010

This week on the Disc Breaks show I'm very pleased to bring you the biggest breakbeat act to come out of Australia in the last couple of years - Karton. I was lucky enough to interview Paul Beohm, one half of Karton, for NSB Radio and I'll be playing that interview in full, talking about about how the guys met, how they work together and the release of their first full length album 'For All Seasons' coming very soon on Sound Of Habib. Following the interview I'll be playing their latest promo mix for the last hour, which is chock full of their new stuff.

If you're a fan of the show, chances are you're a fan of Karton, so this show is one not to be missed.

Karton

"Karton are fast becoming the new Hybrid. No scrub that, they're already there" - iDJ Magazine (January 2010)

As genres have risen only to fall, production duo Karton have developed and refined their own unique sound, which – while grounded by their love for all things breakbeat – is never limited by the constraints any single style of music provides. The variation in their production work and club sets illustrates that Karton don’t simply follow the crowd but rather craft a distinctive style as they continue to push their sound to new levels.

The duo have released numerous singles and remixes across the globe which have received club and radio support from the world’s top DJs and radio stations, including BBC Radio1, KissFM and Triple J. Karton have recently been nominated in the 'Breakthrough Producer' category for Breakspoll, the International Breakbeat Awards.

Karton’s first full-length studio album is now finished. Due to be released in the second half of 2010, ‘For All Seasons’ showcases the duo’s musical exploits for the dance floor and beyond.

First up big thanks to everybody whop supported me at the recent NSB Radio awards. To be nominated was great, to win two categories - 'Best Antipodean DJ' and 'Voice Of NSB Radio' - was just awesome, so thank you.

This week I have another treat for you in the form of a live guest mix from now local Diistortiion! Glen Diistortiion moved over from the West Coast to Melbourne and brought with him his unique blend of genre bending, rock infused, groovy, stompin' breakbeat. With a recent release on Ridiculoud and another about to drop expect a mix chock full of new Diistortiion material - 'tis gonna be wicked.

Diistortiion
Originating from Perth, Western Australia, DiiSTORTiiON discovered breakbeat in his early clubbing days and never looked back.
Seeing acts like Soul of Man, Krafty Kuts, Aquasky and Adam Freeland, rock Perth’s most renowned underground club – Ambar, completely converted him over to electronic music and his alter ego DiiSTORTiiON was born.

Quickly gaining sets at clubs all over Perth, DiiSTORTiiON got well known for his sound being more of the harder edged style of breaks while still having a party vibe blended throughout. Playing out more and more eventually caught the eye of Perth’s Elite Dj’s “Japan 4”, otherwise known as Ambar’s residents and he was invited to join their ranks.

Stepping outside the clubs DiiSTORTiiON kept busy by doing plenty of local radio support slots and a five year long weekly radio show called ‘Broken Frequency’. Starting out on local Australian radio Kranky Digital, DiiSTORTiiON eventually moved over to the number one online breakbeat radio station in the world NSB Radio, where he hosted a weekly 2 hour radio show showcasing the newest breakbeat tracks to a worldwide audience.

Spreading outside of Perth DiiSTORTiiON toured regularly on the east coast of Australia supporting such acts as Elite Force, Chase & Status and Rouge Element while they were on tour. Gigs on the east coast got so regular he eventually decided to pick up everything and move over to Melbourne to continue his Dj career from there.

2010 has been a busy year for DiiSTORTiiON. His hard work in the studio has eventually paid off with three of his original tracks being signed to USA breakbeat label Ridiculoud Records. On the djing front he has picked up multiple residences with the Mixed Messages crew, Skool of Thoughts ‘Against the Grain’ parties, Brown Alleys resident Saturdays ‘Under Suspicion’, Melbourne’s premium weekly breaks night ‘Bass Camp’ at Lounge and guests spots all over town. Support slots have also stepped up with DiiSTORTiiON being fortunate enough to share the stage with some of the biggest names in the business including Stanton Warriors, Elite Force, Ctrl Z, Napt, General Midi, Freestylers plus many more.

Moving into promotions he is heavily involved in running the Mixed messages parties and Brown Alleys Saturdays ‘Under suspicion’ with mate Muska and all the mixed messages crew.

So what to expect from a live set? Loving the way Djing is moving forward DiiSTORTiiON embraces the genre mashing styles of dj’s these days and pushes all sounds he loves into a dj set. Be that breakbeat, dnb, dub step hip hop or electro he will mold it into a dj set and blended with a heap of his own edits, bootlegs and original tracks to express himself musically through his djing. If you like big basslines, phat drums and big synths then come check it out!!

Disc Breaks with Llupa - 130 - ft. Farace - 12th August 2010

Back again with more exclusive Disc Breaks Guest mix shizzle - this time from one of the Don's of the US Breakbeat scene - Farace!

Farace
With originals and remixes on labels such as Caffeine, Kick It, Dead Famous, Kaleidoscope, Boxon and many more, Farace is truly pushing the envelope in US break-beat production. Being from Florida people usually do not associate his 'sound' with the Florida breaks that one would expect. Over the past two years Farace has gained global respect reflected in remix opportunities for over 19 record labels worldwide, including Bombeatz (US), Dead Famous (UK) and The Saw (Russia). He has constantly been on the top Breaks charts peaking songs at number 3 on Beatport and taking number 1 at several others such as TrackItDown, DaneMusicHub and DjTunes. You can find his music on countless dj mixes and it has also received airplay from top web and real radio shows including NuSkoolBreaks.co.uk and Kiss FM UK. No stranger to the decks, Farace has played with artists such as Krafty Kuts, Dj Funk, Dj Irene, Rabbit In The Moon and countless others since his beginning. With recent global bookings at elite events such as the Ultra Music Festival in Miami Florida and Breakspoll at Fabric London, his journey has just begun.
